Sonya Dakar is known worldwide for being the facialist to the stars, including actress Gwyneth Paltrow and American Idol Judge Paula Abdul, but magazines are quickly citing her name for a different reason — her new line of anti-aging products. Under the name of UltraLuxe, her product line promises to improve the look of old and wrinkled skin through creams infused with holistic ingredients. All of her products feature the patented blend Nonaplex, a proprietary blend that contains ingredients that are said to improve the skin’s elasticity and appearance, and it appears her ingredients are a hit with LA’s elite. Magazines such as US Weekly have featured her products as faves among celebrities, and consumers may want to sample her products to receive the same star treatment as the celebs themselves. From masks to cleansers, there is definitely something available for every need.

Sonya Dakar has a personal clinic available where she utilizes her products as part of facial treatments, but for those who can’t shell nearly $800 for a treatment, her products offer a cheaper alternative. Most products are priced between $60.00 to $100.00 per bottle. Additionally, Sonya Dakar promises all products are guaranteed to work as instructed or your money back — no matter how long you use the product. For consumers this is a definitely a benefit not found in most other creams. There isn’t much information about the ingredients contained in their creams, however.

Product Details

Sonya Dakar’s ingredients contain a mixture of botanical ingredients, including oat protein, bitter orange, aloe leaf juice, rosewood oil, and Vitmain E. Oat Protein and Bitter Orange are both used to soothe the skin and constrict capillaries under the skin, which may eliminate the presence of discolored or darkened skin. Not many studies even make the connection between it and skin elasticity, however, but many skin companies do. On the other hand, Aloe Leaf Juice and Rosewood Oil contain natural fragrant properties that may soften the skin. These ingredients won’t improve the skin’s elasticity potential, of course, but it was probably added to make her products more desirable and pleasant to use.

Vitamin E has its negative parts and positive parts as well — when digested, Vitamin E helps eliminate free radicals in skin cells, tiny particles that cause skin cells to mutate. It may not have the same effect when applied on the skin, mostly because it cannot effectively penetrate the epidermis into skin cells. More testing will be needed to confirm any benefits of topically-applied Vitamin E.

The Good

  • Bitter Orange may help restrict capillaries under the skin, helping ease puffiness around the eyes.
  • Her entire line is celebrity endorsed and approved by several magazines.

The Bad

  • Her treatments are very expensive, and the alternative (purchasing separate products) aren’t exactly cheap either.
  • Ultra Luxe Age Control does not include any ingredients with proven effectability against the formation of wrinkles.
  • Some ingredients are not as effective in topical form.

The Bottom Line

Dakar offers many ingredients with numerous endorsements, but her Ultra Luxe Age Control might come up short. The ingredients included do provide benefits, but it is the ones Dakar describes. Ultra Luxe Age Control may improve the appearance of skin, but it does not have any proof backing up a benefit she claims this product has — anti-aging relief.
