The Personal Formulator takes a very interesting approach to skin care. Instead of consumers choosing products based on the formulas found within, The Personal Formulator allows customers to create their own ingredient combinations to come up with skin care products customized to their unique needs. The creation of the formulas is done through The Personal Formulator’s parent company BPI Labs. The requests are sent into the laboratory, which will then create the specific formulas in their own, state-of-the-art facility. The company claims that turnaround time is faster than consumers might think and the prices are competitive. However, no prices are quoted until the customer submits his completed formula.

The website for The Personal Formulator also provides recipes for skin care formulas based on the specific needs of the customer. The company offers recipes for two different types of anti-wrinkle formulas; the Anti-Wrinkle System and the Face Lift System. Customers can also find a list of ingredients available from the company and produce their own version of an anti-aging skin care product. Due to the fact that the company makes up each order individually and to the specification of a particular client, The Personal Formulator does not provide refunds on opened products. We were also unable to find customer testimonials from those who have successfully used this unusual system before.

Product Details

For the purpose of this review, we will take a closer look at the formula suggested for The Gentlemen’s Refinery Anti-Wrinkle System. This formula contains matrixyl, argireline, germaben (which is a preservative), hydroxylethylcellulose and distilled water. We are pleased to see that the formula includes both matrixyl and argireline; two proven anti-wrinkle ingredients.

Matrixyl has been shown to boost the production of collagen in the skin by a significant amount and argireline effectively relaxes facial muscles that lead to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, these ingredients are more effective when combined with a skin hydrator like hyaluronic acid that will penetrate the skin’s surface and help it retain moisture. This current formula does not contain hyaluronic acid and we are unsure whether it can be added easily.

Most simply want a ready made formula that will best meet their unique needs in turning back the clock on their skin. There are products on the market that can do just that by offering fully prepared formulas for a reasonable price.
