Skincents is a skin and body care line marketed by Waiora, a multi-level sales company that also produces vitamins and health supplements. We find often that companies that sell their skin care products through multi-level marketing tend to focus more on their sales distribution network than on expertly formulating the ingredients in their products. We will have to take a closer look to see if that is the case with Skincents. The Skincents Face line consists of six products: Cleansing Facial Gel, Moisturizing Facial Cleanser, Refining Microderm Treatment, Firming Facial Mask, Revitalizing Facial Serum, and Regenerating Wrinkle Treatment.
The Skincents website is generally well-laid out and informative. Each product is described along with its key benefits, application instructions and a full ingredient list. Being able to assess the ingredients in a product is important for consumers to be able to judge whether the product contains any low-quality “fillers” or ingredients likely to trigger allergies. What is missing from the Skincents website is links to any clinical research supporting the effectiveness of the active ingredients or of the products themselves. We feel that the best skin care products are thoroughly tested before coming to market.
Product Details
For this review, we will focus on the Skincents Regenerating Wrinkle Treatment, as it claims to fight aging at the cellular level, boost the production of collagen, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Retailing at $79.95 for 1 ounce at the time of this review, this product is fairly expensive when compared to its competitors. There are around 35 ingredients listed for the Regenerating Wrinkle Treatment. Consumers may feel that the more ingredients there are, the more likely the product is to be effective. We find however that if the correct ingredients are used, the product does not need as many other ones to support them.
The stand out ingredient in the Regenerating Wrinkle Treatment is palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, also known as Matrixyl. We always look for this important peptide in anti-aging formulations as it has been clinically-proven to reboot the body’s production of collagen and thereby reduce the depth of wrinkles. However, we prefer to see Matrixyl paired with hyaluronic acid to rehydrate the skin or Argiriline to smooth wrinkles by relaxing the underlying facial muscles. The ingredient list also includes Vitamins E and A which may have a healing and anti-oxidant effect on the skin. We also like the fact that the formulation does not include parabens, cosmetic preservatives that are known allergens and suspected carcinogens.
The Good
- Contains Matrixyl.
- Available for purchase directly from the company website.
The Bad
- No money-back guarantee offered.
- Does not contain hyaluronic acid or Argiriline.
- Expensive when compared to competitors.
- Not labeled as non-allergenic.
The Bottom Line
While we like the fact that the Skincents products contain some effective ingredients, we feel that they are lacking others. The price is what we expect to see from a multi-level organization that has to cover profit margins for its distribution network. There are products on the market today that contain Matrixyl along with other effective ingredients that are less expensive and are backed by clinical research and a money-back guarantee. Consumers may wish to research these options before settling on this one.
