Skin Effects by Dr. Dover is a line of skin care products that were created by dermatologist Dr. Jeffrey Dover exclusively for CVS Pharmacy. Dr. Dover has been known for his efforts in non-invasive cosmetic surgery, and has now focused on creating a topical solution with his skin care line. He has practiced dermatology for more than twenty years and has written a large volume of material on skin care. There are products in the Skin Effects line for a multitude of skin types and issues, but the one that we will take a closer look at is the Skin Effects Renewing Effects Targeted Anti-Aging Treatment.
The Skin Effects line by Dr. Dover is available through both the CVS stores and online at the CVS website. The items are reasonably priced, with the Anti-Aging Treatment costing about $16 at the time of this review. CVS has a 30-day return policy on all non-prescription products, so you can purchase your Skin Effects items with peace of mind. However, we were unable to find customer testimonials for these products. The Anti-Aging Treatment claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating the skin and causing the facial muscles to relax. The product can be applied once or twice a day and can be worn alone or under moisturizer and makeup.
Product Details
The product ingredients for the Skin Effects by Dr. Dover Anti-Aging Treatment include Aqua (Water); Acetyl Hexapeptide-3; PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate; Hydroxyethylcellulose; Hydroxyethyl Acrylate; Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer; Squalane; Polysorbate 60; Disodium EDTA; Diazolidinyl Urea; Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.
The ingredient that we are particularly interested in is the acetyl hexapeptide-3, which is also known as argireline. Argireline has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by up to 30%, which makes it an excellent choice in this anti-aging treatment. However, argireline is even more effective when it is paired with other proven anti-aging ingredients like matrixyl, hyaluronic acid or collagen. None of these ingredients are included on the list for Skin Effects by Dr. Dover. It also does not appear to contain many moisturizing ingredients, which is a concern since hydration is important for treating aging skin. It seems that you would have to add a moisturizer to your program to ensure your skin remains properly hydrated.
The Good
- The Skin Effects Renewing Effects Targeted Anti-Aging Treatment contains argireline.
- The product is reasonably priced and easy to find.
The Bad
- Other proven anti-aging ingredients are not included in the formula to maximize effectiveness.
- We could not find customer testimonials on the product.
- There does not appear to be many moisturizing ingredients listed in this formula.
The Bottom Line
With a low price and an ingredient like argireline in the mix, the Skin Effects by Dr. Dover anti-aging product may be worth a try. However, there are other products on the market with more effective ingredients that may provide a better value for your anti-aging dollar, even though they also come with a higher price tag.

I have been using Skin Effects products for several months now and recently I got a terrible burn around my eyes after using CELL CELL Anti-Aging Eye Treatment. I have been using this product all along since this past January with no problems. Actually I have really liked these products until now. Any suggestions?
