Sjal is a company dedicated to combining ancient eastern medicine with western biotechnology. In addition to using natural ingredients in their products, precious minerals and gemstones are infused into the formulas to provide “bio-osmotic” energy, according to the company website. Sjal stresses simplicity in skincare, so they are focused on a few basic products. All of the formulas in the Sjal line are designed to repair the skin by increasing hydration, adding balance and preventing the signs of aging.

The products are sold through stores and online retailers; they are not available through the company website, however. While the company provides comprehensive information in regards to ingredients in the formula and directions for use, we were unable to find customer testimonials or any sort of money back guarantee offered. The products are some of the most expensive that we’ve seen, and without a money back guarantee, the consumer assumes a rather large risk in purchasing these products without knowing for sure exactly how they will perform. At the time of this review, we found the Serum 1 selling for $240 and the Kura Intuitiff selling for $155 for one ounce.

Product Details

While nearly all of the Sjal products claim to offer some anti-aging benefits, we will focus on two of them for the purpose of this review. The first is Kura Intuitiff, which is marketed as an intense hydration cream that can repair dry, damaged or mature skin. The ingredient list for this product includes hyaluronic acid, lactic acid and palmitoyl pentapeptide 3, also known as matrixyl. Hyaluronic acid is an effective skin hydrator that has the ability to smooth the skin effectively enough to reduce the look of fine lines. Matrixyl is a proven anti-aging ingredient, and is especially effective when combined with other known anti-aging substances like hyaluronic acid. Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that is used in many anti-aging products because of its exfoliating ability that leaves the skin softer and smoother. However, it can also be very irritating to sensitive skin types.

The second Sjal wrinkle fighting product is the Serum 1, which is said to contain hexapeptides that result in “immediate and long term reduction of wrinkles”, according to the company website. According to one online retailer, this substance is acetyl hexapeptide-3, also known as argireline, which has been proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by up to 30%. This ingredient is combined with hyaluronic acid as well, for even stronger anti-aging benefits.

The Good

• There is no evidence we could find proving that mineral/gemstone essences offer any kind of wrinkle fighting benefits.

The Bottom Line

While the Sjal products come with a high price tag, they also come with proven anti-aging ingredients that may give you the results you are hoping for. However, there are many less expensive products on the market that can offer the same ingredients and benefits for a fraction of the cost. The main attraction of Sjal products seems to be their incorporation of crushed gemstones and minerals into the product formulas, but we could find little substantial proof that this was effective at fighting wrinkles.
