Plantogen is, as its name suggests, a line of products derived from plants and other natural sources. Plantogen manufactures the usual selection of cleansers, toners, creams and serums, along with body care and foot products. Some of the Plantogen products such as the Corrective Eye Gel, the Intensive Firming Serum, and the Overnight Stress Repair, claim that they will reduce wrinkles and firm the skin. We will review the ingredients in these products in the next section to see if the Plantogen anti-aging products might be able to live up to the promises.

All of the Plantogen products are available for purchase on the company’s website but as the company is located in Australia, postage may be prohibitively expensive. The website also lists spas throughout many countries, including the United States, where Plantogen products are sold. We were unable to identify a manufacturers guarantee on the website which means that customers may not be able to get their money back if they are not happy with the Plantogen products or if they trigger allergies or sensitivities.

Product Details

All of the Plantogen products are based on natural plant extracts. Looking at the Intensive Firming Serum, for example, the active ingredients listed are: green tea extract, Lady’s Thistle, Lady’s Mantle, Horsetail, Soy Germ, Wheat Germ, Alfalfa, and Radish extracts. Green tea extract shows some promise in the fight against aging skin and has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, there is nothing in this list of ingredients that supports the claim that the product improves skin elasticity or reduces wrinkles. The website refers to a clinical study supporting the claims but provides no detail in order for the consumer to determine the validity of the study. Plantogen also does not appear to release the full list of ingredients on its products, which makes it difficult to assess whether there are any low-quality or allergenic ingredients included. Consumers should remember that just because a product is “natural” doesn’t mean that it won’t trigger allergies.

When we look for an effective anti-wrinkle or anti-aging formulation, we look for specific ingredients that have been clinically-tested and proven to deliver dramatic and long-lasting results. Collagen is one of those ingredients because skin needs collagen supplementation as its production of this natural substance dwindles as we age. Hyaluronic acid deeply hydrates the skin and holds water deep in the sub-dermal layer. Peptides, such as Matrixyl 3000 (which stimulates the body’s own production of collagen) and Argireline (which smoothes wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles underneath), work together to rejuvenate aging skin.

The Good

  • Based on natural ingredients.
  • Contain ingredients which may have a beneficial effect on the skin.

The Bad

  • May be difficult to purchase products.
  • May not contain clinically-proven ingredients.
  • No money-back guarantee available.
  • Not labeled as non-allergenic.

The Bottom Line

Naturally-based skin care products like Plantogen are becoming more popular all the time as concerns about chemicals and synthetic ingredients multiply. However, many natural products simply do not have the ability to produce the anti-wrinkle and anti-aging results of some expertly formulated products. We feel that if you are looking for real results that last, you may wish to continue your search and look for a product with clinical trials supporting its claims and a manufacturer that stands behind the product with a money-back guarantee.
