Overview
Nutrium is another new breakthrough in the field of skin care ingredients. Nutrium is a soy bean derivative developed by DuPont. It is possible that Nutrium may replace vegetable oil as a health oil alternative (there are rumors that Kellogg’s is currently researching the use of Nutrium.) However, currently Nutrium is primarily available in a line of Dove body wash. The theory behind including Nutrium in a body wash is that this oil will help to moisturize and nourish the skin. Nutrium has been trademarked under the name “Nutrium Low Lin Soybean Oil,” and many of the Dove products that include Nutrium advertise themselves as “NutriumMoisture.”
Dove’s line of Nutrium products seem to be the only way consumers can get a hold of Nutrium at this time. A medium sized bottle of Dove Nutrium Body Wash retails for $4, while a larger bottle costs $6. As of this writing, the NutriumMoisture Body Wash is the featured product on Dove’s website. The Dove NutriumMoisture Body Wash claims that it will help to “nourish” the skin, and also provide deep moisturization.
Product Details
Here is the complete list of active ingredients found in the Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash with NutriumMoisture, as found on the official Dove website: Water, Glycine Soja (Soybean) oil or Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Lauric Acid, Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Fragrance, Sodium Isethionate, Lauryl Alcohol, Tallow Acid or Palmitic Acid, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylisothiazolinone, Tetrasodium EDTA, Etidronic Acid, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, BHT.
As an all-natural oil, the theory is that the Nutrium found in the body wash will help to nourish the skin and will help the other beneficial ingredients to penetrate deeper under the skin’s surface layer.
The Good
- The Nutrium body wash should be widely available at drugstores and super markets.
- The Dove NutriumMoisture body wash is affordably priced.
- Dove is a brand with a good reputation.
The Bad
- No free trial of Nutrium products seems to be available.
- We saw no dedicated anti-aging ingredients in any products that feature Nutrium.
- It looks like Dove has more Nutirum products than just the Body Wash, but some of these other web pages lead to “error” messages.
- The body wash we looked at contains artificial fragrances, which could irritate sensitive skin.
The Bottom Line
Nutrium is an intriguing new development in the field of skin care. For us, it remains to be seen if Nutrium will have more practical application is a skin health supplement, or as a health food. Dove certainly believes in the ingredient, which is clear when looking at the level at which they’re promoting their NutriumMoisture body wash. It looks to use like a Nutrium-based body wash could be a good addition to your skin care routine, but it probably won’t do much for facial wrinkles.
