DermaNew Review

Overview

DermaNew began when two salon owners, Amby Longhofer and Dean Rhodes, decided that their clients needed a home alternative to the microdermabrasion treatments they were getting at the Beverly Hills salon. DermaNew offers home kits for microdermabrasion in addition to a line of skin care products that are designed to work with the kits, or to work alone for younger, more radiant skin. The DermaNew line was introduced to the clients at the salon and tested out with very positive results, and now the products can be purchased both through the company website and via other online retailers.

The DermaNew line offers skin care for a wide variety of skin types, including those with sensitive skin, blemish prone skin, dry skin or combination skin. It also provides a number of products for those interested in turning back the clock on the skin. It is this group of products that we will primarily focus on; and specifically, we will look at the DermaNew Replenishing Night Cream because it is touted as a treatment for wrinkles.

Product Details

We are happy to see that the company website provides a complete ingredient list for its products. The list for the DermaNew Replenishing Night Cream is a very long one, so instead of telling you everything that is included, we will mention a few of the items that are conspicuously missing. When we peruse an ingredient list for any anti-aging product, there are a few proven, cutting-edge substances that we look for. These might include matrixyl for stimulating the production of collagen, argireline for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and sodium hyaluronate for ultimate skin hydration and moisture retention. We were unable to find any of these substances on the ingredient list for the DermaNew Replenishing Night Cream.

What the DermaNew cream does offer is retinyl palmitate, which is a form of vitamin A. This substance can improve the overall look of the skin and reduce the look of fine lines. However, retinyl palmitate can also be a potentially irritating substance, especially to those with sensitive skin. It is important to use the product sparingly, especially before you know how your skin will react to it.

The Good

  • The DermaNew Replenishing Night Cream contains retinyl palmitate.

The Bad

  • The cream does not contain proven anti-wrinkle ingredients like matrixy, sodium hyaluronate and argireline.
  • We were unable to locate information about a money back guarantee or customer testimonials on the DermaNew website.
  • The ingredient list is very long, which makes us wonder about its overall effectiveness.

The Bottom Line

The DermaNew Replenishing Night Cream has a long ingredient list that contains few proven anti-wrinkle ingredients. While the microdermabrasion kits might be an effective way to exfoliate the skin at home, consumers might want to consider other products to diminish the appearance of wrinkles.

Top Choice for 2009:  Dermapril-SP

Dermapril-SP was our favorite product to introduce, with a patented formula and visible results after only two weeks of use. Matrixyl 3000™, the patented active ingredient in Dermapril-SP, is backed by a clinical study showing a reduction in appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by 44%.

Dermapril-SP is based on research into the mechanisms that enable younger skin to appear firmer, tighter and more supple than older people's skin. The treatment helps the skin regain a more youthful appearance by accelerating the natural production of three building blocks: Collagen, Fibronectin and Hyaluronic Acid. The result is a rapid rejuvenation and a dramatically reduced appearance of wrinkles and other signs of age caused by sun exposure, smoking, stress, hormonal changes and other common factors.

Frequent reported benefits include immediate tightening and firming; smoother, softer skin; diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; and rejuvinated, glowing skin. Dermapril-SP is the only product on the market that combines patented Matrixyl 3000™ and green-tea extracts in a hydrating cream. Based on the high cost and quality of the ingredients, Dermapril-SP is reasonably priced. Customer satisfaction is high and Dermapril-SP offers a free trial, so that customers can fully evaluate the product prior to purchasing it.
