Dermanesse is a “Home Microdermabrasion” system that was created by a woman named Kathleen Williams. Kathleen Williams was very curious about microdermabrasion techniques as an alternative to plastic surgery and did a lot of research on the subject. The end result of her research was the creation of cosmetic sponges that were bonded with microdermabrasion crystals. She started her own company called Dermanesse so she could share this alternative procedure with others. Her goal was to recreate the microdermabrasion process that would cost you thousands of dollars in a clinic, only to make it very affordable and easy for anyone to use at home.

The official Dermanesse website has many informational .PDF files you will need to open for information about the products. The DermaSponges, for instance, claim to be effective for removing wrinkles, age spots, discoloration, scars, and many other skin disorders. The Dermanesse website offers a few products that were all created to work with each other to provide maximum results. The best deals seem to be the Dermanesse Professional Microdermabrasion kits, which feature many products in one discounted package. This includes DermaSponges, Prep Wash, DermaRelief Gel, HydraLipid Serum, Protective Day Cream, and a tote bag.

Product Details

The official Dermanesse website has a few different products available but the most interesting are the DermaSponges. These are round sponges that contain aluminum oxide crystals claimed to be similar to what clinical microdermabrasion machines use to exfoliate your skin. The official website says you only have to use these sponges once every two weeks in three-minute sessions.

The other products available are meant to be used before and after the DermaSponges and are your basic mix of moisturizers, cleansers, and creams. They all average around $30 and most of them contain all natural ingredients such as aloe vera, plant oils, and antioxidants. The DermaRelief Gel contains lidocaine, which is a topical analgesic.

The Good

  • The Dermanesse home microdermabrasion products are a lot cheaper than a similar technique performed in a clinic or dermatology office.

The Bad

  • There is a lot of potential to hurt yourself with this product. Anything that has a rough surface such as the DermaSponges must be used carefully.
  • The Dermanesse creams and moisturizers are fairly expensive and don’t contain any powerful anti-aging ingredients.
  • The official website is difficult to navigate and doesn’t provide enough information on the products. A video would be very helpful.
  • Obviously, Dermanesse is more of a general skin health product than a wrinkle fighting treatment.

The Bottom Line

This product may appeal to those who really like what microdermabrasion has to offer but, for your casual shopper looking for an anti-aging system, this may seem a little scary. Microdermabrasion is typically done by trained professionals and doing it yourself at home seems risky to us. If you are considering this product you should consult your doctor or dermatologist before using it. If you are looking for a more standard anti-aging product that will give you real results, you might consider a wrinkle cream that includes some well-known anti-aging and wrinkle fighting ingredients.
