Clinique is a company with a long-standing reputation for quality cosmetics and skin care products. However, in perusing the company website for anti-aging products, we count no less than 17 items available for sale. While we can understand a product that is specifically geared toward turning back the clock on the eyes or lips, we are curious as to exactly why a company must market four different products designed for use on the eye. With so many Clinique products to choose from, it can be virtually impossible for a consumer to find the right product.
To complicate matters further, Clinique provides only scant information about each product, leading the consumer to wonder which will be the most effective. While some of the products do specify the skin type they are designed for, choosing the best item seems to be a matter of luck and guessing. Some consumers may choose to go through the “My Skin Report” on the Clinique website that will help them choose products when they answer a series of questions. However, even going through this process can result in the recommendation of numerous Clinique products, so choosing the right one from the multitude still becomes a necessary process. We were unable to find information about a money back guarantee, free trial offers or customer testimonials to help the process along.
Product Details
In perusing the Clinique website and online retailers offering the Clinique products, we were unable to find any ingredients listed for any of the products. For example, the Clinique Repairwear Deep Wrinkle Concentrate boasts a “unique peptide complex” that can stimulate collagen production. It sounds quite promising on the surface. However, the company never specifies exactly what this “unique peptide complex” is. Could it be Matrixyl? Argireline? Something that does not have the track record or effectiveness of these two ingredients? We just don’t know.
The Good
- Some of the Clinique products claim to contain peptide complexes to stimulate collagen production.
- The company has a reputation for quality products.
The Bad
- There are no ingredients to be found on the Clinique website.
- There is no money back guarantee available on products.
- We could not find much in the way of customer testimonials on any of the products.
- Free samples did not seem to be an option either.
The Bottom Line
Many consumers will choose to go with a Clinique product for anti-aging because of the long-standing reputation this company holds. However, the multitude of products offered can easily confuse the consumer and make it difficult to find the best product for individual needs. Couple this with the fact that almost no information is available on any of the products, including complete ingredient lists. This is a serious concern, since consumers are at the mercy of the company in terms of inferior ingredients in the formulas and substances that could cause an allergic reaction. We encourage consumers to educate themselves about products before purchasing and this seems to be unnecessarily difficult to do with the Clinique line.
