For the sake of this review, we will look at one specific Cetaphil product, the Daily Facial Moisturizer. This product promises protection from the sun’s harmful rays, which also means protection from the aging process like the appearance of fine lines. The ingredients included in this formula include Avobenzone 3%, Octocrylene 10%, Water, Diisopropyl Adipate, Cyclomethicone, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer 940, Disodium EDTA and Triethanolamine.
Avobenzone is also known as Parsol 1789, a sunscreen that provides significant UVA protection. Octocrylene is another type of sunscreen that offers UVB and some UVA protection. Combining the two ingredients into a single product means a significant amount of sun protection that may indeed postpone the aging process. However, we do not see anything in this formula that would suggest the Cetaphil moisturizer would be effective on signs of the aging process that have already occurred. For this purpose, we would advise consumers to look for proven ingredients like matrixyl, argireline, collagen and hyaluronic acid. None of these substances are included in this Cetaphil moisturizer.
