Dermagen IQ Review

Wonder how Dermagen IQ works?

Dermagen IQ is an anti-wrinkle cream. Several websites are online promoting a free trial of the product. Some lead to the actual official website, but others take the customer to products not associated with it. Beauty & Truth is the company behind the formula. We don’t know when the business started, but we do know it hit online in 2011.

What is Dermagen IQ?

Dermagen IQ is a “Age Correction Cream” from Beauty & Truth. Though no complete list of ingredients is provided, we know the formula contains peptides and collagen. There’s nothing on parabens, fragrance, other irritants or animal testing.

Quick Facts on Dermagen IQ

  • Dermagen IQ is made by Beauty & Truth.
  • We have no idea if irritants are used.
  • Animal testing is not mentioned.
  • The price is not listed.
  • May only be available as a free trial offer.

What’s the Skincare Editor’s Take on Dermagen IQ?

“Given the lack of ingredient information and the fact that you have no idea the cost of Dermagen IQ, we are skeptical about this one,” says our Skincare Editor.

Here’s What People Are Saying

There were several reports of the company being a scam.

  • ”The free trial is nothing of the sort. I was charged the next day, and had a hard time canceling the auto shipment.”
  • “These people are nothing but scammers.”

There were a few, however, who didn’t feel this way.

  • “I got the product and used it for a while, then canceled with no problem.”
  • “I canceled and was never charged more than my $4.95.”

Lots of people said the product just didn’t work for them.

  • ”I know vitamin C is good for the skin, but there’s nothing special about this cream.”
  • “I could get better results with drugstore products.”

And others said they loved their results.

  • ”This helped my skin feel softer and smoother in just a couple of uses.”
  • “My skin feels so much better since I started using this product.”

Are We Sold on Dermagen IQ?

Well, it’s true that peptides are good for the skin, and there are many anti-aging products out there with it. But, the reason we are hesitant about this one is the lack of information on the ingredient list and the fact that you cannot purchase without agreeing to an auto shipment.

Auralei Review

Do you need the truth about Auralei?

Auralei is a skin care line with two products, a serum and a moisturizer. Both are available with a free trial from multiple websites. It’s hard to say which one is the official website, and there’s no information about the manufacturer. Using the two together, the company claims you can get results better than Botox without the expensive and painful procedure. The domains associated with the websites were registered in September 2015.

What is Auralei?

Auralei offers both a serum and a moisturizer. Both are supposed to help fight the signs of aging. Unfortunately, there’s not a full list of ingredients available on any of the websites we found promoting the product. The only one the websites talk about is retinol, which is a common antiaging ingredient found in many creams, serums and treatments.

Quick Facts on Auralei

  • Available as a serum and a moisturizer.
  • No information on the manufacturer.
  • Several websites promote a free trial of both products, with an auto-ship requirement.
  • We do not have a complete list of ingredients.
  • The free trial may be associated with a short timeframe.

What’s the Skincare Editor’s Take on Auralei?

“We have quite a few reservations about Auralei, because we have so little information on the formula and company,” says our Skincare Editor.

Here’s What People Are Saying

People aren’t happy about the auto-ship program, and they don’t find the product effective.

Many people reported issues canceling their automatic shipment.

  • ”I canceled well before the 15 day deadline and still was charged.”
  • “Even though I canceled in the timeframe, I was still charged.”

Others didn’t have any problems.

  • ”I was able to cancel my autoshipment without any problems.”
  • “I decided to keep the serum coming for a few months, but was able to cancel when I wanted to without issue.”

Lots of people reported ineffectiveness with both the moisturizer and the serum.

  • ”I didn’t feel anything different when using these products.”
  • “No noticeable change in my skin after a month of regular use.”

Not everyone felt this way, however.

  • ”I used both the moisturizer and the serum for a month and saw results within two weeks.”
  • “With the moisturizer alone, I saw results in less than a month.”

Are We Sold on Auralei?

Well, we have some issues. The free trials and autoshipment programs are worthy of red flags on their own, but when you add the fact that we don’t know who makes the product and we don’t really know what’s in it, that’s reason enough to turn to a different retinol based formula.

Astalift Review

Do you need to know how Astalift works?

Astalift is a Japanese beauty brand, that’s actually part of the Fuji Photo Film Company. It’s the only cosmetic brand, and was developed in 2007 as a result of the company’s transition into collagen and nano-dispersion technology. The official website doesn’t have the option to select America, so you have to choose an Asian country and rely on translation. Orders can be placed through other vendors, but online it won’t ship to the United States directly from the manufacturer.

What is Astalift?

Astalift is a full line of skin care products, with a special focus on anti-aging products, and a main audience of women. Ingredients vary depending on product, but include a variety of things such as three different kinds of collagen, dill extract, watercress extract, astaxanthin – a substance thought to be up to 1,000 times more effective than CoQ10.

Quick Facts on Astalift

  • Doesn’t have a USA website.
  • Several products to choose from.
  • Available in some department stores across the world.
  • Products are expensive – some are available through other merchants for shipping to the USA, at near $100.

What’s the Skincare Editor’s Take on Astalift?

“The Astalift brand is popular, but the ingredients are not much different than what you see in other products available. Considering how hard it is to get in the United States, it’s no wonder we see people looking for alternatives a lot,” says our Skincare Editor.

Here’s What People Are Saying

There are a lot of people who say the products are expensive, and they expected better results.

The products are pricey.

  • ”I can’t afford to spend $125 ($168 AUD) on a moisturizer.”
  • “Not only are these products hard to get a hold of in the United States, they are really expensive, too. I can pay those prices and get other department store brands easier.”

Not everyone feels like they are too expensive, though.

  • ”You have to pay for quality, and I’m glad I did.”
  • “I was afraid to spend that kind of money, but it was totally worth it.”

Many people thought that for the money, they’d get better results.

  • ”I didn’t see any major differences in my skin after weeks of use.”
  • “It felt okay on my skin but I don’t think it did anything.”

On the other hand, there were a number of people who loved their results.

  • ”My skin has never felt more amazing.”
  • “I wish this product were easier to find because I love it.”

Are We Sold on Astalift?

We’re iffy on it. If you can manage to find a website that will ship to the United States, you’re one step ahead of the rest of the gang. But, you have to be able to afford it, and be willing to take the chance that it may not work as well for you as it does for some.

Vine Vera Review

Wonder how Vine Vera works?

Vine Vera skin care company with a variety of products. They have multiple collections, all named after wines. One is vitamin C based, another is merlot based, and some use multiple ingredients, but all of them include resveratrol. The official website was purchased in 2011, and the company got its US start in 2012, since expanding to become a global brand.

What is Vine Vera?

Vine Vera Resveratrol Skin Care has multiple products for your body, eyes, and face. We’ll be taking a closer look at the Resveratrol Moisture Day Cream, to see how it stacks up to other anti-aging skin care products available on the market today. Ingredients include glycerin, resveratrol, alcohol, propylene glycol, fragrance, and several others.

Quick Facts on Vine Vera

  • Products are expensive, some of them are over $100 each.
  • Cruelty-free.
  • Contains parabens.
  • Fragrance may irritate some people.
  • Contains alcohol, which may cause skin damage.

What’s the Skincare Editor’s Take on Vine Vera?

“Vine Vera products are expensive. There isn’t much to separate them from all other products available on the market today in terms of ingredients, which makes the price questionable,” says our Skincare Editor.

Here’s What People Are Saying

Many reviews say the product wasn’t moisturizing enough.

  • ”This is a total scam! The 3rd ingredient in this moisturizer is propylene glycol, which is an ingredient in anti-freeze! The first ingredient is water! That is expensive water.”
  • “Too expensive and not as thick as it used to be!!”

Others, however, felt Vine Vera did a good job.

  • “The moisture day cream was so smooth and non-oily. It felt super great on the skin and my skin looked much smoother after applying the product.”
  • “Works like a MIRACLE! I use this cream everyday, and it has greatly improved the appearance my skin. It worked right away. So I don’t understand the other reviews which are negative.”

The price is prohibitive for people, even those who otherwise like the product.

  • ”Love this moisturizer. I wish it had sunscreen built into it (SPF 30) I would give it 5 stars if the price wasn’t so high.”
  • “I got a sample of this cream and I love it, but it’s too expensive for me…wish it was cheaper I don’t think you have to pay a lot for a product for it to work.”

Yet, there were plenty of people who didn’t seem to be bothered by price.

  • ”It soaks right in and does not leave any greasy feeling whatsoever on your skin. This cream is unlike any other cream that I have used.”
  • “This product is expensive but quality is rarely cheap.”

Are We Sold on Vine Vera?

We see nothing special about the Vine Vera products that make us think they are worth spending that kind of money on. With the complaints of ineffectiveness and lack of value for the price, we believe there are plenty of other anti-aging products on the market that will do a better job for a lesser price.

Sukin Review

What does Sukin really do?

Sukin is an organic skin care line based out of Australia. The company was launched in Melbourne in 2007, with a focus on organic, sustainable ingredients. They have a wide variety of products including cleansers, exfoliators, and toners, moisturizers, hair and body care products, oils, serums, and more.

What is Sukin?

Sukin skin care has an expansive line of products, and makes it easy for people to shop by need, or by skincare type. We’ll be taking a closer look at the Sukin facial moisturizer, since using a moisturizer is an important part of an anti-aging skin care routine. The main ingredients are aloe vera, rose hip oil, avocado oil, and sesame seed oil. In the US, products can only be found in some Marshalls and TJ Maxx stores and online at Amazon.

Quick Facts on Sukin

  • Products are paraben free.
  • Contains irritants like limonene and linalool (naturally found in essential oils), and citrus extracts.
  • No products include SPF protection.
  • May only be available online via Amazon.
  • Some products are dedicated to anti-aging.
  • Finding a complete list of ingredients is nearly impossible.

What’s the Skincare Editor’s Take on Sukin?

“We like all-natural, paraben-free, sustainable products. However, the natural ingredients in essential oils and aloe have been known to irritate skin for some people,” says our Skincare Editor.

Here’s What People Are Saying

There are complaints about effectiveness, as many people say their skin was left feeling dry.

  • ”…but it’s not winter anymore and the weather is fantastic and yet my skin feels dry after i apply this cream.”
  • “Because it doesn’t have all the chemicals that most skincare products have, I had high hopes for a moisturizer I could stay with. This just isn’t the one. When I first apply it I like the way it feels but as it penetrates, my skin feels very dry. I apply more but it still feels the same – very dry.”

Not everyone got these results, however.

  • ”The moisturizer is very light and absorbs readily. I am generally wary about using moisturizers as I am still prone to breakouts. This has been very gentle — no irritation and no breakouts.”
  • “While this lotion doesn’t completely alleviate my flaky skin, it has helped it significantly enough that my skin does not look or feel dry with foundation on nor are there any noticeable patches of flaky skin.”

Lots of people said it caused them to break out with acne, some of which was cystic and severe.

  • ”After a week of using it, it broke me out so severely that it drove me to the point of tears. I had completely clear, flawless skin before I started using this moisturiser – and a week later my cheeks were completely red and inflamed and my entire forehead was full of pimples”
  • “Arghhh! This product caused me to have really bad cystic acne. It was the only product in my routine I changed so I know it was caused by this product. I had no idea it was so pore clogging.”

Fortunately, not everyone felt this way.

  • ”It absorbs nicely into my skin and leaves it soft and ready for make up. And I love that it is cruelty free, vegan and all natural.”
  • “This is my new go to brand, extremely cheap, environmentally and skin friendly! WIN!”

Are We Sold on Sukin?

We love the paraben-free, cruelty-free, vegan status of the brand, but the fact that many people complained about being broken out after using this product, along with the issues of effectiveness, leaves us wanting more from Sukin skincare. Sure, you can fight lines and wrinkles, but what’s it worth if you’re left with other skin care problems as a result?

What Are We Sold On?

Our favorite anti-aging product of 2016 is BioGeniste. The customer reviews are outstanding and it contains scientifically tested ingredients.

Lancome Hydra Zen Review

Do you want to know the truth about Lancome Hydra Zen?

Lancome Hydra Zen is a hydration product skin care line, designed to help combat the signs of aging. Lancome is a global brand, but the USA website was first purchased in 1995. Products are sold online through various merchants and in department stores such as Macy’s and Bloomingdales. The brand was initially founded in 1935, but has been a subsidiary of L’Oreal since 1964. Product refunds are handled at the place of purchase.

What is Lancome Hydra Zen?

Lancome Hydra Zen is an anti-aging product line, featuring a day cream, moisturizing day cream, night cream, and beauty essence, but there doesn’t appear to be a specific Lancome eye cream in this product line. Ingredients include dimethicone, various extracts, limonene, alcohol, perfume and fragrance, and others.

Quick Facts on Lancome Hydra Zen

  • Expensive – $56 for just over an ounce.
  • Contains irritants like limonene and fragrance.
  • Money back guarantee.
  • Several products to choose from.
  • Alcohol can damage skin, even if it’s not sensitive.
  • Skin damage can result in signs of premature aging.

What’s the Skincare Editor’s Take on Lancome Hydra Zen?

“This is an expensive product with irritants. It may work well for some people, but if you have sensitive skin, it may not be the best choice,” says our Skincare Editor. “Plus, it’s missing some important anti-aging ingredients.”

Here’s What People Are Saying

There are several complaints about product effectiveness, especially with the Lancome face cream.

  • ”Nope, not moisturizing enough for dry skin. There are a lot of cheaper drugstore/ high end products that work better imo. Will not repurchase.”
  • “I gave this cream 3 stars. It is mediocre for me. It applies thickly and is difficult to blend.”

But, there are people who love it, too.

  • ”I just bought this moist. Cream, I so so so love it, My skin is usually soft but this cream makes it even softer. Worth buying!”
  • “I love this cream – the texture, the scent, everything.”

People believe it’s expensive and expected better results for the price.

  • ”This is a really nice basic moisturiser in a pot. But that’s kinda it.”
  • “Been using Hydra Zen – for dry skin since it launched more than 10 years ago. It was the only cream that worked for my super dry skin. They have changed their packaging a few times through out the years, but not the cream itself. However, they have changed the ingredients recently – causing tingling sensation, redness and very itchy. Had to wash it off straight away.”

Not everyone feels this way.

  • ”The best moisturizer I have ever used. In general I’m a massive fan of Lancome, and this has to be the best product I’ve ever used from them which is saying a lot.”
  • “i think this moisturizer goes on the skin beautifully, it has a thick consistency but it doesn’t make your face appear greasy at all and makes your skin feel soft.”

Are We Sold on Lancome Hydra Zen?

Are we ready to change our moisturizing routine? Not quite. There were some complaints of allergic reactions from users who’d used the product faithfully for years, suggesting the formula recently changed. There’s also the fact that the ingredients are not necessarily designed to fight the signs of aging.

What Do We Feel Is Better Than Lancome Hydra Zen?

Of all the products we’ve reviewed in 2016, the one that stands out is BioGeniste. The customer reviews are absolutely great and it contains scientifically tested ingredients.

YouTheory Collagen Advanced Formula Review

What You Should Know

YouTheory Collagen Advanced Formula is a collagen supplement that claims to supplies collagen types one, two and three along with a long list of amino acids. The idea is to support beauty, healthy skin and tighter skin from the inside out. Along with skin support, collagen is commonly used to support joint health, improve hair and nail strength and support ligaments and tendons. In addition to the type one, two and three formula, there are multiple other collagen formulas on the official YouTheory website.

Product Details

The YouTheory Collagen Advanced Formula contains just three ingredients – collagen, magnesium and calcium. The collagen supplies both hyaluronic acid and chondroitin, but according to the product description, the amount of each varies so there is no means of telling just how much of these popular ingredients the consumer is taking. One serving of YouTheory Collagen Advanced Formula supplies 26 calories though only 24 of those calories come from the six grams of collagen protein in each serving.

According to the supplement instructions, the user is supposed to take three tablets twice a day supplying the aforementioned six grams of collagen. Researchers have reported a positive improvement in skin absorption (of moisture) with collagen intake of 10 grams per day for a minimum of 60 days. This supplement does not supply the 10 grams of collagen suggested in these studies and there are no studies listed in the product description to support claims of stronger hair, stronger nails and healthier skin.

The Good

  • We like the fact that a list of ingredients is available online.
  • The consumer can take collagen by mouth with other supplements instead of applying to a small area of the skin.
  • May help improve skin absorption over time.

The Bad

  • May not contain a clinically proven amount of collagen.
  • There are no clinical studies listed in the product literature.
  • We found only one review on a major supplement website selling YouTheory Collagen Advanced Formula.

The Bottom Line

There is a case for taking collagen by mouth to improve skin health, or based on clinical study skin absorption, but YouTheory Collagen Advanced Formula may fall a bit short. Clinical findings suggest taking 10 grams of hydrolyzed collagen per day for at least 60 days to see optimal effects. This supplement supplies only six grams of collagen nearly half the suggested amount. As it is, the consumer is asked to take three tablets twice a day; meeting the 10 grams of collagen would mean taking more or another collagen supplement all together.

Rejuvicare Collagen Beauty Formula Review

What You Should Know

Rejuvicare Collagen Beauty Formula claims to support skin, hair and nail health with a daily boost of collagen, but there are some problems with the supplement and the company behind the supplement. We were unable to locate an official website or any contact information for the manufacturer. We found one Canadian website, but that was for a different, single product from the company. We did find several articles on the Kardashian family and mention of the Kardashians on the Rejuvicare Collagen Beauty Formula bottle. What we didn’t find was detailed information on the type of collagen included in the formula or mention of how much of each amino acid is supplied.

Product Details

Collagen is a supplement offered in many forms by many different manufacturers. Rejuvicare is a product of Windmill Health, but there are some issues with the product line. We visited the Windmill Health website and we only found Windmill Health branded supplements – no Rejuvicare. The address listed for Windmill Health in the product description of Rejuvicare Collagen Beauty Formula is different from the address listed on the company’s contact page – though both are in New Jersey. The product label says the supplement is distributed by Windmill Health, so who manufacturers the supplement?

To make matters more confusing, we found mention of Barton Nutritional so we checked to see if that company sold Rejuvicare or claimed the product line – but we found nothing. Barton Nutritional Systems does sell a liquid collagen supplement, but it does not go by the Rejuvicare name. As a matter of fact, the Barton product line looks slightly less main stream than the Rejuvicare line – based on labeling alone.

One bottle of Rejuvicare Collagen Beauty Formula sells for less than $13. The bottle lasts one month, making this product a spectacular deal, but collagen is not the only ingredient in the formula. You will find grape seed extract, Tonalin, grape skin extract and melon pulp in the formula as listed in the other ingredients. Some users have reported feeling changes in mood, anxiety and stomach discomfort after taking Rejuvicare Collagen Beauty Formula.

The Good

  • Less expensive than other collagen supplements.

The Bad

  • No manufacturer is listed.
  • Consumers complain they cannot contact the company.
  • The type of collagen included is not listed.

The Bottom Line

This is a cheap, liquid collagen supplement marketed with a push from the Kardashian family. We have no idea who makes the supplement and no idea what type of collagen is supplied. No matter the price, we believe the consumer has a right to know what they are taking and who made the supplement.

Neocell Super Collagen C Review

What You Should Know

Neocell Super Collagen C is a multi-tasking supplement that claims to improve skin health, repair ligaments and tendons and help the consumer lose weight. There are nearly 100 reviews of the product on Amazon.com alone and most are positive giving the supplement four to five out of five stars. Consumers report improved joint health, weight loss and reduced acne breakouts. The only ingredients in the formula are collagen and vitamin C, both associated with improved skin health.

Product Details

Neocell Super Collagen C contains collagen and vitamin C. The collagen is derived from bovine sources, which may be an issue for some consumers, especially consumers who choose not to consume products derived from animal sources. The supplement is gluten free, but it is not vegetarian or vegan friendly.

Neocell offers a long product description for the Super Collagen C product, but the product cannot be purchased online from the company and there are no reviews from consumers who’ve tried the product. We were able to locate a large number of consumer reviews online with the majority claiming positive benefits of taking the supplement, including clearer skin, improved joint pain and weight loss.

Neocell Super Collagen C may contain sulfites. Sulfite allergies are more common in patients with asthma and aspirin sensitivity. Consuming products with sulfites, if you are sensitive or allergic to sulfites, can lead to anaphylactic reaction and death. We found one consumer review claiming shortness of breath, hives and swelling after taking this supplement. There is a warning on the label about possible sulfites in the formula, but there is no mention of possible side effects associated with the sulfites.

The Good

  • The product label is published online.
  • Reviews for the product are positive.

The Bad

  • May be dangerous for consumers with asthma or allergies.
  • At least one consumer has reported an anaphylactic reaction to the supplement.
  • Consumers cannot purchase the supplement directly from the Neocell website.
  • There are no reviews on the official website.

The Bottom Line

Due to the possible risk of anaphylactic shock in some consumers, we suggest reading the label carefully and consulting with your physician before taking Neocell Super Collagen C. Improving the look of skin, hair and nails should not come at the risk of anaphylactic shock. Anaphylaxis can lead to death. Any allergic symptoms that develop after taking this supplement or any supplement containing sulfites should be taken seriously.

Rodial Skincare Stretch MX Review

What You Should Know

One major concern of women everywhere is stretch marks. Unfortunately these unsightly marks tend to show up after giving birth to a child. Gaining weight, and then losing weight can also lead to stretch marks. As you may know, several skin care and beauty companies have released over-the-counter products to address stretch marks, and assist with minimizing them. These topical treatments can be found in department stores, as well as online. The product we will examine in this review is Rodial Skincare Stretch MX, which is one option to consider for unsightly stretch marks. It can be acquired through online distributors like skinstore.com.

Product Details

Rodial Skincare Stretch MX is an easily-absorbed formula that is claimed to improve the appearance of stretch marks. This treatment does not stain clothing, and assists by smoothing out the skin’s surface. It additionally helps diminish the appearance of fine lines wrinkles. Rodial Skincare Stretch MX sells for $75 per bottle. It is especially geared toward women with existing stretch marks, or those who want to prevent the formation of stretch marks during pregnancy. This is a gel formula that melts into the skin with no greasy residue. Within no time at all, the skin should appear smoother and firmer.

The primary ingredient mentioned for Rodial Skincare Stretch MX is Multi-Fruit Acids. These natural acids assist by exfoliating dead surface cells. This in turn encourages skin cell renewal. Over time, this formula should reduce the appearance of skin flaws like stretch marks and wrinkles. Some other notable ingredients found in this formula are Jojoba Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Green Tea Leaf Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Geranium Flower Oil, and Grapefruit Peel Oil. These natural oils help moisturize and soothe the skin.

The Good

  • There are a lot of natural oils used in Rodial Skincare Stretch MX.
  • This formula may help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

The Bad

  • There is no clinical research presented on this skin care treatment.
  • No before and after photos are posted on the main website.
  • The cost of Rodial Skincare Stretch MX is $75.
  • No customer testimonials or success stories are presented on the official website.

The Bottom Line

There are more and more “stretch mark” creams and gels being released all the time. Unfortunately the majority of these products fail to yield real results. As for Rodial Skincare Stretch MX, this formula may help exfoliate the skin. It also contains many moisturizing oils to help hydrate, and possibly prevent the formation of new stretch marks. However, there is no evidence presented to support that this gel diminishes existing stretch marks. There is not even any success stories or before and after photos found on the main website.

Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum Review

What You Should Know

Sun damage can accumulate over the years, and suddenly you are seeing spots. These age spots or hyper-pigmented areas are the result of melanin build up. The skin has a natural defense to the sun’s damaging rays, and skin cells are darkened as a defense mechanism. While this is meant to help protect your skin, it does not look attractive to most people. On the bright side, there are topical skincare products available to assist you with brightening and lightening your complexion. Age spots can be reduced, and uneven skin tone can be corrected. One product that is claimed to assist with this is Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum. This is an over-the-counter treatment that sells for $98 per one-ounce bottle.

Product Details

Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum is supposed to assist by improving skin radiance, diminishing discolorations, reducing surface lines and wrinkles, and correcting sun damage. It is advertised as an intense formula that addresses hyper pigmentation and age spots. This formula might also help reduce the size of skin pores. Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum is suitable for anyone with sun damage, liver spots, dark patches, age spots, or uneven skin tone.

Although no active ingredients are mentioned for Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum, there are some notable ingredients used in this product. These are Niacinamide (assists by lightening dark patches and age spots), Pomegranate Extract (combats free radical damage), Sodium Hyaluronate (binds moisture to the skin to reduce dryness), Shea Butter (hydrates the dermis and reduces surface lines), Vitamin E (soothes and heals the skin, while fighting free radical damage), Licorice Root Extract (helps reduce hyper pigmentation and uneven skin tone), and Glycerin (moisturizes the skin and provides a barrier to help prevent dryness).

The Good

  • This serum is sold in a convenient pump container.
  • The ingredients used in this serum may help even out skin tone.

The Bad

  • Synthetic fragrance is used in this serum, and may lead to irritation.
  • Three types of alcohol are found in Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum.
  • No complete ingredient list is found on the main website.
  • The price for this anti-aging treatment is $98.

The Bottom Line

When all is said and done, we do not recommend Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum for age spots, sun damage, and hyper-pigmented skin. First of all, this serum sells for $98 per ounce, which is not affordable for many people. Secondly, this serum lacks proven skin-lightening ingredients like Hydroquinone. While Rodial Skincare Skin Bleach Serum does contain beneficial ingredients like Licorice Root Extract and Niacinamide, it would be nice to know what percent of each ingredient is used in this formula. After all, the amount of each key ingredient is important.

Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel Review

What You Should Know

The skin care market is constantly expanding with new anti-aging treatments. While many of these are specifically for wrinkles and facial sagging, others are geared more toward skin brightening and reducing hyper pigmentation or sun damage. The more sun exposure you receive each day, the more likely it is you will experience age spots, uneven skin tone, freckles, and hyper-pigmented areas. After all, this is the result of damaging UVA and UVB rays over the years. Brands like Glytone offer products that address hyper pigmentation, melasma, and age spots. The product we will scrutinize in this review is Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel.

Product Details

Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel is suitable for people with normal to oily skin types. This $54 treatment is supposed to help reduce signs of sun damage, hyper-pigmented skin, acne scars, and age spots. It assists by lightening the skin, and encouraging a more even or uniform tone. This formula is more lightweight than the cream version, and goes on without leaving any excess oil or residue behind. Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel can be applied to clean facial skin each night.

Just to be clear, Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel is sold through licensed dermatologists and skin care professionals, and not through the official website. This formula contains the active ingredient, Hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a commonly used skin-lightening agent, and it works by preventing the production of melanin or darkened skin cells. This ingredient is suitable for conditions like sun damage, freckles, age spots, and even melasma, which is the result of hormonal changes. Hydroquinone is available in as high as 4% when acquired through a doctor. However, the amount used in Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel is not disclosed.

The Good

  • A moisturizer is used in Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel.
  • This formula contains the skin-lightening ingredient, Hydroquinone.

The Bad

  • According to the official website, this gel has been discontinued.
  • The cost of this formula is $54, which may be too pricey for some people.
  • This gel treatment may increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.
  • This formula does not address wrinkles and fine lines.

The Bottom Line

If you are specifically searching for an anti-aging treatment that only assists with age spots and skin discolorations, Glytone Skin Bleaching Clarifying Gel may be a good option. Then again, this specific formula has been discontinued for some reason or another. However, there are other Glytone products available that assist in the same way. Since this product contains Hydroquinone, it will likely assist with uneven skin tone and brown patches. But, you should keep in mind that there are various other options available, which contain this key ingredient, as well as others to aid with other signs of aging.

SunSpot ES Gel Review

What You Should Know

In more recent times, there has been a major focus on sun damage, and effective ways to treat age spots, hyper pigmentation, melasma, liver spots, and freckles. As you may have noticed, many skin care companies are releasing products to address sun damage and hyper-pigmented skin at home. This way you do not have to visit the local dermatologist for laser treatments that can cost a lot of money. The product we will scrutinize in this review is SunSpot ES Gel, which sells for around $39. You can find this formula through online dealers, and it comes in a handy 0.5-ounce tube.

Product Details

SunSpot ES Gel is directed to be applied to sun spots as often as needed. This unique, topical treatment is claimed to treat hyper pigmentation, age spots, brown patches, and sun damage on the skin. It is noted that the more exposure to sunlight you get, the more damage you receive from UV rays. This damage eventually results in age spots and hyper-pigmented skin. SunSpot ES Gel is suitable for women and men with moderate to severe sun damage and hyper pigmentation.

Glycoalkaloids are found in SunSpot ES Gel, and benefit the skin by soothing and exfoliating old skin cells. This key ingredient helps rejuvenate the dermis, and may help diminish brown patches and spots. Salicylic Acid is incorporated to slough away the top layer of skin. This way the more youthful skin that lies beneath can be exposed. The third key ingredient found in SunSpot ES Gel is Aloe Vera. This ingredient assists the skin by healing, soothing, calming, and hydrating.

The Good

  • This formula can be applied to specific spots or patches on the face.
  • Not many ingredients are used in this gel, which some people will appreciate.
  • Aloe Vera is a major ingredient in SunSpot ES Gel, and may help soothe and calm the skin.

The Bad

  • You only receive 0.5 ounces in each tube of SunSpot ES Gel.
  • Hydroquinone, a proven ingredient for age spots, is not used in this formula.
  • This gel treatment does not address wrinkles or collagen loss.
  • No customer testimonials are posted to support this hyper pigmentation treatment.

The Bottom Line

At first glance, SunSpot ES Gel does offer a unique key ingredient called Glycoalkaloids, which is not commonly seen or addressed for hyper pigmentation treatments. However, there is not really any proof presented on this ingredient. Hydroquinone, on the other hand, is a proven key ingredient for age spots and hyper-pigmented skin. Therefore you should consider topical treatments that contain this active ingredient. Other major ingredients for sun damage and age spots are Licorice Extract, Mulberry Extract, Kojic Acid, and high doses of Vitamin C.

It is available through the primary website for $74 (one ounce), and does come with a 14-day satisfaction guarantee. This anti-aging treatment is suitable for people with sun-damaged or acne-prone complexions.

Product Details

CosMedix Define Resurfacing Treatment is a product that endeavors to increase skin cell turnover, encourage collagen production, slough away dead surface cells, and hydrate the skin. It can be used in the evening on a clean face. This product is part of the “stimulate and repair” line. Over time, this treatment may help minimize surface lines, fade past acne scars, and reduce age spots. While there are some before and after photos provided on the official website, they do not appear to apply to CosMedix Define Resurfacing Treatment. No clinical data is presented on the main website for this product either.

A 2% AGP Complex is used in CosMedix Define Resurfacing Treatment. This unique complex contains Retinol and Amino Acids. Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that encourages skin cell turnover. This can help reduce scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage. Amino Acids are added to aid with skin cell exfoliation. These include L-Lactic Acid, L-Malic Acid, L-tartaric Acid, and Stearic Acid. Together these key ingredients may also improve collagen production.

The Good

  • There is a 14-day money-back guarantee provided on the main website.
  • A complete ingredient list is posted on the official website.
  • Some customer reviews are posted on the website.

The Bad

  • The cost of this anti-aging treatment is a little expensive at $74.
  • Two types of alcohol are used in CosMedix Define Resurfacing Treatment.
  • This product might make your skin more sensitive to the sunlight.
  • This treatment may be too greasy for some skin types.

The Bottom Line

First and foremost, it is nice to see that CosMedix Define Resurfacing Treatment is sold with a 14-day money-back guarantee, as long as you buy it through the primary website. After all, $74 is a lot to spend on one ounce of product. As for the benefits of this topical treatment, it does contain amino acids and retinol to aid with skin cell renewal and resurfacing. This can help reduce some signs of aging. However, these ingredients may also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Lastly, there are two types of alcohol used in CosMedix Define Resurfacing Treatment, which may encourage dryness.

Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream Review

What You Should Know

You may be familiar with the term hyper pigmentation. After all, this is a very common skin concern of women and men as they age. More commonly referred to as age spots, sun damage, liver spots, freckles, and brown patches, hyper pigmentation is caused by a build up of darkened skin cells, over the years. Melanin production in the skin heightens due to sun exposure, which results in lentigines or age spots. On the bright side, there are many skincare formulas and treatments to address this concern. One of which is Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream. This topical treatment can be found through online distributors like skincarerx.com for around $60 (two fluid ounces).

Product Details

Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream is marketed as a “gentle” formula for age spots, freckles, melasma, sun spots, and pigmented scars. It does not require a dermatologist’s prescription, and may produce different results for different users. This cream is claimed to brighten the skin, even out the complexion, and naturally lighten pigmented spots and sun damage. It is directed to be applied both morning and night, and should be used with a sunscreen during the daytime (at least SPF 15).

There are a few major active ingredients incorporated into Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream. These are Hydroquinone 2%, Bearberry Extract 2%, and Kojic Acid 2%. If you add up the percentage of each key ingredient, you get 6%, which is where the name, Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream, comes from. Hydroquinone is a popular skin-bleaching agent that is often prescribed by dermatologists. It helps lighten dark patches and pigmented spots. 2% is the highest dose you can get without a prescription. As for Kojic Acid, this is a Japanese mushroom extract that helps by inhibiting the production of melanin in the skin. Bearberry Extract inhibits the production of Tyrosinase, which helps minimize dark spots over time.

The Good

  • This unique cream has three different active ingredients in it.
  • You can purchase Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream without a doctor’s prescription.

The Bad

  • There are some negative online reviews posted for this cream.
  • The ingredient Hydroquinone can cause side effects in some users.
  • Chemical preservatives are used in Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream.
  • Sulfates are used in this skincare product, which some users will not like.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to skin-bleaching and the correction of hyper pigmentation, different treatments work well for different people. Therefore Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream may help reduce dark spots on some women, but not have an effect on others. Keep in mind that this particular formula does contain chemical preservatives, alcohol, and sulfates, which may encourage skin irritation. It is wise to see a dermatologist prior to buying a product like Clinicians Complex 6% Skin Bleaching Cream.

Avene TriAcneal Review

What You Should Know

Avene is a skin care company that traces its roots all the way back to the 1700s. Basically, Avene is a small town in the south of France. It has a unique spring that offers healing abilities. Ever since the 1700s, when a horse with a skin disorder was healed by this spring, the water from it has been highly sought after. Therefore the Avene skin care line uses this unique water in their products. These products range from treatments for hypersensitive skin, to rosacea, to aging skin, to acne blemishes, to atopic skin. The one we will look at in this review is Avene TriAcneal. Although it is not sold directly through the official website, there is a dealer locator tool provided on the website.

Product Details

Avene TriAcneal is primarily for oily or problematic skin types. While this formula endeavors to treat and prevent acne blemishes, it also assists with some signs of aging. More specifically, this formula sloughs off dead surface cells to reveal new skin, reduces redness, minimizes irritation, and helps eliminate scarring from pimples. Avene TriAcneal is both hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. This formula is also free of parabens, which some users will appreciate.

You simply apply Avene TriAcneal to a clean face once each night. A sunscreen is recommended during the daytime. Four major ingredients are mentioned for this formula. These are Glycolic Acid (6%), Avene Thermal Spring Water (5%), Retinaldehyde (0.1%), and EFECTIOSE (0.1%). While Avene Spring Water helps by soothing and softening the skin, EFECTIOSE minimizes acne breakouts, irritation, and redness. Retinaldehyde is added to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, and acne blemishes, and Glycolic Acid assists by exfoliating dead surface cells. The cost of Avene TriAcneal is $60.

The Good

  • This product contains four different key ingredients.
  • No parabens are used in Avene TriAcneal.
  • This topical treatment may help reduce acne breakouts.

The Bad

  • The second ingredient listed for this product is Alcohol.
  • You cannot acquire Avene TriAcneal through the official website.
  • Fragrance has been added to this formula, which may irritate some complexions.
  • There are no customer testimonials posted for this product.

The Bottom Line

In the end, Avene TriAcneal comes across more as a treatment for acne blemishes than anything else. It is nice to see that four key ingredients are used in this formula, and the actual percentages of each ingredient are revealed. Just to be clear, this product will likely increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. Also, it is a little concerning that three types of alcohol are used in Avene TriAcneal, which may increase skin dryness. Some people may not appreciate that artificial fragrance has been added to this face treatment as well.

On the bright side, this product is unique, and does have some interesting ingredients. However, websites like Sephora, which post consumer reviews, have several negative responses to Clarins Super Restorative Night Wear, which will likely cause some women to avoid this anti-aging treatment, and look elsewhere.

  • Tata Harper Skin Care is non-toxic.

The Bad

  • These skin care treatments lack reputable anti-aging components.

  • Many skin care products are marketed as totally natural and non-toxic these days, which makes Tata Harper Skin Care not that unique in this respect.
  • Free samples of are only provided to those who make a purchase.

The Bottom Line

All in all, Tata Harper Skin Care appears to be a fairly new skin care brand. Naturally it is nice to see that the products in this line are non-toxic. It is also refreshing that they are all-natural and manufactured in-house. As for the primary ingredients used in Tata Harper Skin Care treatments, it is unclear how effective they really are for anti-aging. Although this skin care line sounds interesting and gentle, it is difficult to determine if it is actually as effective as some of the other skin care lines available today, which is why we cannot recommend it.

ZO Skin Health OMMERSE Overnight Recovery Crème Review

What You Should Know

ZO Skin Health is a product line offered by Zein Obagi, who is a medical doctor. All topical treatments in this skincare line are offered through the official website. It is clear that these formulas are supposed to be high-end or dermatologist grade. One of them is ZO Skin Health OMMERSE Overnight Recovery Crème, which sells for $95 (1.7 fluid ounces). Like most topical treatments, this product is applied daily to clean skin (one or two pumps), and it may help prevent aging, reduce wrinkles, heighten skin radiance, even out skin tone, and reduce pore size.

Product Details

ZO Skin Health OMMERSE Overnight Recovery Crème is a treatment for dull and/or dry skin. It aims to deal with premature aging symptoms. Since some individuals have dry skin, common sings of aging may be seen more quickly. This means fine lines, crow’s feet, and deep facial creases. This product contains key ingredients like Canadian Willowherb (helps minimize irritation, redness, and inflammation), Retinol (this is Vitamin A, and it aims to minimize wrinkles and fine lines), as well as Squalane (this component helps to prevent moisture loss). It is primarily recommended that ZO Skin Health OMMERSE Overnight Recovery Crème be used at night before going to sleep. This is due to the fact that the skin regenerates and heals more when you are sleeping.

All ingredients for this formula are as follows: Aqua (Water), Dimethicone, Biosaccharide Gum-4, Stearic Acid, Ethylhexyl Isononanoate, Glycerin, Shea Butter Oleyl Esters, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric/Myristic/Stearic Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Retinol, Retinyl Palmitate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Lecithin, Linoleic Acid, Arachidyl Alcohol, Evodia Rutaecarpa Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Epilobium Angustifolium Extract, Cetyl Alcohol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables, Polysorbate 20, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Trehalose, Ceramide 2, Phospholipids, Glyceryl Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Polyacrylate-13, Polyisobutene, PEG-100 Stearate, Arachidyl Glucoside, Micrococcus Lysate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, and Hexylene Glycol.

The Good

  • This product contains Vitamin A, which is a well-know anti-aging ingredient.
  • There are some testimonials posted on the official website for ZO Skin Health OMMERSE Overnight Recovery Crème.

The Bad

  • No 100 percent money-back guarantee is offered with this product.
  • It is primarily just suitable for dry skin.
  • No free trial samples of ZO Skin Health OMMERSE Overnight Recovery Crème are offered.
  • Some users may experience acne breakouts when using this formula.

The Bottom Line

In the end, ZO Skin Health OMMERSE Overnight Recovery Crème is really just a topical anti-aging treatment for individuals with dry/dull skin types. While it is nice to see that this product was developed by a medical doctor, this does not necessarily mean it is effective. It is wise to check into some other anti-aging treatments that actually come with money-back guarantees. This way you know you can try the treatment, and if it does not suit you, you can get a full refund.

Beauticontrol Review

Have some questions about Beauticontrol?

Beauticontrol is a skincare and cosmetics line sold online, in spas and from consultants. We know the company started the official website in 1995 – so they have some time on the market. You can return items within 30 days, but color choices are final.

What is Beauticontrol?

The Beauticontrol line is all about pampering skin and looking your best. All ingredients are listed on the official website. Some common ones include dimethicone, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, various fruit and flower extracts and glycerin.

Quick Facts on Beauticontrol

  • You can return items for 30 days.
  • The ingredient lists are provided.
  • Irritants like orange, lemon and grapefruit peel extract are used.
  • Aroma is mentioned in some ingredient lists.
  • Fragrance, a common irritant, is found in some products.

What’s Our Skincare Editor’s Take on Beauticontrol?

“There are quite a few Beauticontrol products on the website,” says our Research Editor. “The trouble is there are also quite a few irritants like citrus peel extracts and fragrance. Irritation is one facilitator of premature aging.”

Here’s What People Are Saying

The first issue we came in contact with was skin irritation. This could honestly have something to do with the fragrance or other irritants in some formulas.

  • “I broke out in a rash, it itched like crazy.”
  • “I did not like this product and am very unhappy with it, I paid about $60 and still cannot get rid of the rash on my face that it gave me.”

Users also claim the opposite.

  • “I have sensitive skin and it worked wonders.”
  • “If you use the skin care as directed, have a healthy diet, avoid stress and drink tons of water…. you will look [good].”

We also found some reports that claimed the products are ineffective.

  • “I guess I was expecting way too much from this cream, or maybe it’s just too early to tell. It moisturizes very well, but that’s about it so far.”
  • “It’s not Botox in a bottle but I am thinking by my results I would have to use this for over a year to see any drastic results.”

Of course, there are those who found the Beauticontrol products perfectly good.

  • “I have used it in the past month. It is not greasy and keeps my skin moist and soft all day.”
  • “It really plumps the skin and it is not greasy.”

Are We Sold on Beauticontrol?

This is where things get interesting. We have some concerns about the line because irritants are used in some formulas. Irritating the skin can cause damage, even though it cannot be seen with the naked eye. You do NOT want to do this, especially if you’re trying to fight the signs of aging. Plus, some of the Beauticontrol reviews were not exactly supportive.

What Do We Like Better Than Beauticontrol?

For 2016, a product that we like better than the competition is BioGeniste. You don’t need a huge line of formulas – just one with clinically tested ingredients and customer reviews that show real results.
