|Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm||
Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm looks similar to lip balm, but the ingredients are added to reduce eye puffiness and leave skin around the eye looking healthier and revitalized in the process. The ingredient list is free of parabens, synthetics, sulfates and other offending ingredients, but we are slightly concerned by at least one ingredient in the formula. As a balm, you can expect to pay a hefty sum for a small amount of the Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye product. In this case, consumers will pay more than $25 for less than one ounce of the product.
Overall, the ingredient list is relatively unremarkable. There are natural extracts of rose, rosemary and jojoba to calm and smooth skin. There is clearly a drive to reduce damage associated with free radicals, thus the strong antioxidant presence we found in Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm. However, aside from a group of peptides, there are very few ingredients with clinically proven effects on skin.
One ingredient of concern is neem. On the ingredient list neem is listed as melia azadirachta extract. Neem is considered a base ingredient in Indian and Ayurvedic medicine and has been used for more than 2,000 years as such, but we found warnings of possible toxicity, kidney damage, liver damage, miscarriage, infertility and child death associated with the ingredient. We are rather certain these reports are associated with oral intake of neem, but the neem applied to the skin will absorb into the body and consumers should never take the risk of potentially life-threatening side effects for the sake of beauty.
Consumers tend to report the same issues with Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm over and over again. The menthol scent is too strong, leaving skin around the eyes tingling long after the product has been applied. The menthol also caused skin irritation and watery eyes for hours.
- Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm does not contain any offending ingredients.
- Consumers report coolness around the eyes after use.
- Comes in a convenient application container similar to a lip balm.
- Multiple consumers report irritation and watery eyes thanks to a strong menthol scent.
- There are a number of reports from consumers claiming no effect on puffiness after weeks of use.
The Bottom Line
We are not sold on the Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm. The balm does have a cooling effect, according to the majority of consumers, but it also causes skin irritation and watery eyes because the menthol scent is much too strong.
