Biophora is a skincare line of products geared towards treating common skin problems such as aging skin, hyperpigmentation, and acne, claiming to fix these common problems through their advanced scientific findings. They state that their products are formulated based on years of field and scientific research about the effect of certain ingredients on the skin, along with collaborative help from naturopaths, chemists, and plastic surgeons. According to their website, treating any skin problem with Biophora will only take 5 minutes per day to complete, which should appeal to the average consumer looking for a quick way to deal with problematic skin. Most of their products are PH balanced and feature scientific information about how it affects the skin.
Currently, Biophora is only available through treatment by a physician; Biophora’s website offers a link to local physicians in your area. Because these services are only offered by professional staff, the risk of adverse side effects should be low. Its medical backing is another plus for those looking for a safe, soothing skincare product.
Product Details
According to Biophora’s website, common ingredients included in their products include the following: Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Beta Glucan, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Citric Acid, Coenzyme Q10, DMAE, Ferulic Acid, Grape Seed Extract, Green Tea Exttract, Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Licorice Extract, L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Papain and Bromelain Enzymes, Peptides, Retinyl Palmitate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Titanium Dioxide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Triclosan and Waltheria Indica Extract. Biophora focuses on Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Beta Hydroxy Acid as potent ways to smooth and reduce wrinkles in the skin. In fact Alpha Hydroxy Acid has been used for centuries as an anti-aging solvent, prevalent in creams used in chemical peels. Alpha Hydroxy Acid helps remove the appearance of fine lines and some wrinkles when it is applied using this process, and only works when it is full absorbed by the skin. It is not effective when used as a cleanser because the residue is wiped off and not absorbed. Furthermore, Alpha Hydroxy Acid has a couple of unpleasant side effects, including peeling at the application sight and an increased sensitivity to UV rays. This is why most dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen after using any formula with Alpha Hydroxy Acid.
In conclusion, Biophora’s products do contain a very powerful ingredient, but it must be used correctly to gain benefits. To gain the most benefit from their products, it is advised to let the formula soak into the skin.
The Good
- Uses Alpha Hydroxy Acid, which is very effective at reducing fine lines and wrinkles when used as an exfoliant.
- Contains vitamins and helpful peptides.
The Bad
- This is a professional grade product used by physicians, so it cannot be bought. You will need to contact a physician in your local area to use these products.
- There are some unpleasant side effects associated with Alpha Hydroxy Acid.
- The price of Biophora’s products are not available.
The Bottom Line
Biophora definitely has potential, and its ingredients may improve the skin’s appearance simply through topical use. There are some side effects associated with it, however, and its availability is scarce – probably not ideal for those who need a quick solution to skin care. This is not really a product for those who need immediate gratification, but it may be ideal for those who would like to sample a professional product.

Hi..
I just recently started Biophora. My doctor highly recommended it for my adult acne and scarring. My question is this: any idea how long I have to use this product? I hope it is not indefinite as this product is expensive. The entire ‘kit’ is approximately $300 every three months!
Any insight would be great!
thx

Hi Rebecca,
I am one of the partners at Biophora and am glad that you brought up the question of how long you might need to use the products and their cost. First, the products are quite concentrated and generally you only need to use a pea size amount of most of them. Although generally your basic range of products may need to be replaced twice a year, (not 3 months) personally, my 250 ml cleanser lasts me up to 9 months or more. Biophora products contain medical grade ingredients, are more results-based and aggressive but often less expensive than most high-end department store brands. If you maintain treatments (peels) at your physician’s office as well as continue daily at-home use of your products, you should see results quite quickly. It’s important that you let your Biophora Technician or physician know if you have any concerns so that they can monitor your progress and modify your program as needed. Along with using Biophora products, for best results we also recommend that clients practice a healthy lifestyle; with sufficient water intake, exercise, balanced nutrition, etc. If you have further questions or concerns, we are always happy to help and please feel free to visit our website for contact info and product knowledge. All the best and thanks for your inquiry!

I just started using this product about a month ago and I started to get pimples. I’ve stopped using the light moisturizer for now, but I’m not sure I want to pay more for this product because of the cost of skin peels. How regularly should we do skin peels to get great results? I use this product for the anti sting benefits. I used another professional product before and I loved the lightening effects which I’m not seeing with this one.
I just want to clarify how often we should have skin peels and what you suggest for lightening of marks from my new pimples.

I’m 27 and as of right now i don’t use anything on my skin except a daily cleanser/ moisturizer.A friend of mine starting using biophora because of adult acne and said i should try the skin care line….but i don’t really have any skin concerns other than dry skin in winter, larger pore size, and my skin is overall looking more dull. Would this product even be worth it for me?

I have used Biophora products for about three years and they are the best! You can order them on line from some medispas in Toronto.

I have been using Biophora for 8 weeks now, and my skin is disgusting. I keep hearing from my technician that my skin will clear up but it hasn’t! Only getting worse!! I have spent $500 on these products, but almost $150 on peels every 3 weeks. WASTE.OF.MONEY!! I am so annoyed.
