Albolene is marketed as a moisturizing cleanser that is extremely effective at removing makeup. The product website states that this formula “is clinically proven by the Skin Study Center to moisturize better than leading brands in its category”. It is this special blend of moisturizing ingredients that makes Albolene safe and effective to use every day. In fact, the product works so well; many in the theatre industry are said to use it nightly to remove stubborn stage makeup safely and thoroughly, according to the manufacturer’s claims.
The Albolene moisturizing cleanser is available in three different sizes and comes in both scented and unscented varieties. The website also claims that this product will keep skin softer and younger looking with continued use. Albolene is very reasonably priced, and can be found at many drugstores and online retailers. It is interesting to note that the product website also asserts that applying this cream to the skin just before a workout can increase perspiration and promote weight loss. It states that this technique has been used by boxers for years. We are curious, albeit skeptical, about such claims from a skin care product. However, for the purpose of this review, we will primarily focus on Albolene’s statement that regular use can lead to younger looking skin.
Product Details
Albolene contains mineral oil, petrolatum paraffin, ceresin and beta-carotene. Most of these ingredients are touted as intense moisturizers, and the product website states that the high moisturizing content of this formula will prevent skin irritation and lead to younger, vibrant, healthy skin. There is no doubt that keeping skin hydrated is the first step to keeping its youthful appearance. However, there is no evidence to suggest that intense hydration is the path to a diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Instead, ingredients like sodium hyaluronate, matrixyl 3000 and argireline are suggested. This product does not contain any of these proven anti-aging ingredients. Due to the high moisture content, Albolene is not recommended for use on oily skin.
The Good
- Albolene has a strong online presence and plenty of client testimonials to back up the company’s claims.
- This product has many high quality skin hydrators in the formula to keep skin smoother and softer.
The Bad
- This product does not contain any proven anti-aging ingredients like argireline, matrix 3000, soluble collagen or sodium hyaluronate.
- The product is not appropriate for oily skin types.
- It is not advertised as an anti-aging product, but rather as a makeup remover that addresses skin health issues.
The Bottom Line
If you are looking for a high quality makeup remover and moisturizer, Albolene has a proven formula to effectively clean away the makeup and keep your skin soft and smooth. However, if you are on the hunt for an effective anti-aging product, Albolene is probably not the formula that you are looking for.
Has anyone had a severe allergic reaction to it? I have used for years but in the last two months I am covered with hives. We have ruled everything else out and I have kept slathering Albolene on as I thought it was safe. I am beginning to think I have developed an allergy to something in it. Help! I’m one big hive! I would love to hear some kind of feedback on this.

Yes! To me a face cream/ makeup remover should feel cool and nice going on. Not this! As I mentioned in separate post, my face is on fire!

my grandmother has been using Albolene for YEARS and she looks amazing. She is 89. Everyone always asks her why her skin looks so good and she credits this stuff. She still drinks daily and used to smoke for about 50 years. I just bought some to put just around my eyes and mouth hoping to keep that area hydrated/less creases.

I am 81 yrs. old and have used Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser for 60 years. The last few containers have been very lumpy. When I am rubbing it on my legs small lumps fall on my carpet or get in the grout of my tile. What has change? I buy the 12 oz. containers of the moisturizing cleanser.
Just curious.

I also have been using Albolene for 62 years, (I’m 80) and I’m fed up with the lumpy texture lately. After all these years I’m going to try something else!

My mom and nana both used Albolene only. Both had beautiful skin, I always used more “modern” stuff at 60 yrs. I gave up and started using Albolene it’s the best 2wks. and my skin looks much better, people have noticed already Thanks Mom & Nana in heaven

I used Abolene one time only, two days ago, and broke out in hives. I used the unscented stuff. NEVER again! Must be the parrafin? Not sure. Won’t bother with this junk again! My face is still sore and feels like it is one fire and itches like mad!

I have used Albolene cream for 40 years and I just love it . I am trying to find where to get some locally because I am almost out . I was buying it at my long time local drug store here in Tuscaloosa,Al. where we had the terrible tornado last April . Our drug store was blown away , it was family owned and they don’t plan to rebuild .

I have been using Albolene for years and have found many uses for it. This product makes a perfect personal lubricant. It does not evaporate easily and will last and last. Another big plus with it is that it will not stain sheets or pillows. I have shared this information with many people and they have all had great results as well.

Albolene has another hidden use. For all those people that suffer from Hemoroid problems, simply apply the product and within an hour, your discomfort is usually gone. I have never had any product work so well or fast.

I’ve started using albolene as a nightly mask and my skin is so supple and young looking now. I had no idea how dry my skin actually was. I think the key to using the product this way is to do so at night on a very very clean face. I use the clarisonic facial cleanser before I apply a pea size dab of albolene over my face and neck before I sleep. Then I clarisonic again in the am. Been very happy, my skin looks great!
