Albolene Review

Albolene is a dual-purpose cleanser and moisturizer. Many people use it to increase sweat and decrease waist size, though the effect is only going to be short-lived. Clarion Brands makes Albolene. There are no details about the company in the corporate information, but we know the website was purchased in 2000. That’s more than 15 years in the business.

What is Albolene?

Albolene is a moisturizing cleanser that contains no soap. The only ingredients are mineral oil, petrolatum, paraffin, ceresin and beta-carotene. It’s typically used as a makeup remover, but the moisture it leaves behind is appreciated by many.

Quick Facts on Albolene

  • You can find a coupon on the official website.
  • Albolene has been compared to Vaseline by some customers.
  • The product contains no fragrance.
  • Albolene is supposed to be recommended by dermatologists.

What’s Our Skincare Editor’s take on Albolene?

“We like Albolene. It will do what it is supposed to do,” says our Skincare Editor. “The problem we have is with negative reviews and reports of side effects even though it is supposed to be irritant-free.”

Here’s What People Are Saying

There are good and bad reviews out there about Albolene cream. The most common issues are texture and side effects.

The thick texture makes it difficult to remove, in some cases.

  • “This stuff removes makeup but it hard to get off skin, even with soap.”
  • “It’s really hard to get off of your face.”

For some customers, the texture is just fine.

  • “Less is more. No fuss. Follow the directions. I use a tissue to wipe the residue off.”
  • “You just need a little and it melts right into your skin.”

Though the ingredient list is simple and irritant-free, there are still reports of side effects.

  • “Totally made my face break out.”
  • “Unfortunately it made my skin itch.”

But, you have to consider that there are positives to offset the negatives.

  • “One of the only kinds that doesn’t burn my eyes.”
  • “Very gentle to skin, no fragrance.”

Is it Time to Get Some Albolene?

Are we removing our makeup with Albolene right now? Well, there’s no doubt this product will remove makeup. It is oil-based and those formulas are the best, especially on water-proof choices. However, we have reservations because there are far too many complaints about the texture and there are even a few people who experienced side effects.

  1. Has anyone had a severe allergic reaction to it? I have used for years but in the last two months I am covered with hives. We have ruled everything else out and I have kept slathering Albolene on as I thought it was safe. I am beginning to think I have developed an allergy to something in it. Help! I’m one big hive! I would love to hear some kind of feedback on this.

    1. Yes! To me a face cream/ makeup remover should feel cool and nice going on. Not this! As I mentioned in separate post, my face is on fire!

    2. I just tried this product out going on 2 weeks now and I have been breaking out in horrible hives all over my body the past week. I finally remembered albolene was my recent change in creams and decided to do research on the connection between this and hives. I already threw the jar out smh.. They itch, sting, and look horrible when the hives show up throughout the day.

  2. my grandmother has been using Albolene for YEARS and she looks amazing. She is 89. Everyone always asks her why her skin looks so good and she credits this stuff. She still drinks daily and used to smoke for about 50 years. I just bought some to put just around my eyes and mouth hoping to keep that area hydrated/less creases.

  3. I am 81 yrs. old and have used Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser for 60 years. The last few containers have been very lumpy. When I am rubbing it on my legs small lumps fall on my carpet or get in the grout of my tile. What has change? I buy the 12 oz. containers of the moisturizing cleanser.
    Just curious.

    1. I also have been using Albolene for 62 years, (I’m 80) and I’m fed up with the lumpy texture lately. After all these years I’m going to try something else!

  4. My mom and nana both used Albolene only. Both had beautiful skin, I always used more “modern” stuff at 60 yrs. I gave up and started using Albolene it’s the best 2wks. and my skin looks much better, people have noticed already Thanks Mom & Nana in heaven

  5. I used Abolene one time only, two days ago, and broke out in hives. I used the unscented stuff. NEVER again! Must be the parrafin? Not sure. Won’t bother with this junk again! My face is still sore and feels like it is one fire and itches like mad!

  6. I have used Albolene cream for 40 years and I just love it . I am trying to find where to get some locally because I am almost out . I was buying it at my long time local drug store here in Tuscaloosa,Al. where we had the terrible tornado last April . Our drug store was blown away , it was family owned and they don’t plan to rebuild .

  7. I have been using Albolene for years and have found many uses for it. This product makes a perfect personal lubricant. It does not evaporate easily and will last and last. Another big plus with it is that it will not stain sheets or pillows. I have shared this information with many people and they have all had great results as well.

  8. Albolene has another hidden use. For all those people that suffer from Hemoroid problems, simply apply the product and within an hour, your discomfort is usually gone. I have never had any product work so well or fast.

  9. I’ve started using albolene as a nightly mask and my skin is so supple and young looking now. I had no idea how dry my skin actually was. I think the key to using the product this way is to do so at night on a very very clean face. I use the clarisonic facial cleanser before I apply a pea size dab of albolene over my face and neck before I sleep. Then I clarisonic again in the am. Been very happy, my skin looks great!

  10. I have used Albolene for 40 years with great results but I have a question about an ingredient. That ingredient is petroleum. Petroleum is gasoline and is poison. How dangerous is that in the cleanser ?

  11. I am 82. I remember my mother rubbing Albolene on my face before I went to sleep since I was 5 years old. I seem to remember that then, in the 1930’s, it came as a liquid in a bottle, not in a jar. Is it true?

    1. Yes, I just came across a bottle of liquid Albolene that was in my 96 year old mother’s medicine cabinet. It has a pharmacy label and I’m pretty sure it was purchased in the late 1930’s or 40’s from the looks of the bottle and the name of the pharmacy. I was unfamiliar with the product, therefore, I was researching its use and found this website.

  12. @Ben yes around 1914 Albolene came in a bottle called Aromatic Liquid Albolene and was used in place of castor oil to relieve constipation

  13. I have used albolene for 25 years and have noticed you may have changed the formula .
I liked how it melted and a little gritty for cleaning .
where can I still buy the old albolene?

  14. Good day I am so grateful I found your website, I really
found you by error, while I was browsing on Bing for something else, Nonetheless I
