Aesop was created in 1987 to offer men and women botanically based products for the hair and skin. The company has stores in Europe, Asia and Australia, and customers can also purchase items from the company website and through other online retailers. The Aesop skin care line includes cleansers, balancers, moisturizers and products designed to maintain the skin. While we are pleased to see a number of moisturizing products included in the mix, it does not appear that any are specifically geared toward anti-aging needs. We believe the lack of a particular anti-aging product is a loss for Aesop, since the market for this type of skin care has become a large one indeed. However, we will take a closer look at certain Aesop products to see if any could provide an effective formula that could turn back the clock on the skin.

In perusing the company website, we were happy to find that Aesop provides complete ingredient lists for all of their products. We believe this information is essential in order for consumers to make savvy choices about their skin care. However, we were disappointed that we were unable to find customer testimonials or a money back guarantee policy from Aesop, since this would also allow customers to shop with confidence in both the products and the company.

Product Details

For the purpose of this review, we will take a look at the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil. This product claims to hydrate dry, dull or stressed skin and is recommended for use at night before bed. The ingredients for this serum include Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, Eugenol, Geraniol, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil, Juniperus Communis Fruit Oil, Linalool, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis, Tocopherol, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil.

While the botanicals in this formula are impressive, there are no proven anti-aging substances on this list. We would urge consumers to look for patented anti-wrinkle agents such as argireline and matrixyl and effective skin hydrators like hyaluronic acid for best results. This Aesop formula does not contain anything that would lead us to believe the product will do anything to reduce the appearance of aging on the skin.

The Good

  • Aesop is a well established company offering a high quality skin care line.
  • Complete ingredient lists are provided on the Aesop website.

The Bad

  • There are no proven anti-aging ingredients in the Aesop moisturizing products.
  • There are no products specifically geared toward anti-aging needs.
  • We were unable to find customer testimonials or a money back guarantee from the company.

The Bottom Line

While the Aesop skin care line might provide high quality products and ingredients, there is nothing in this line to suggest the products will meet anti-aging needs. We would encourage consumers to look for proven substances like argireline, matrixyl and hyaluronic acid for maximum benefit. The Aesop line just doesn’t pack the necessary punch to win the war on wrinkles.
